Wayside Crosses

During the 17th Century the custom of erecting crosses particularly by the Wayside and of a memorial nature became more widespread.

There are two Wayside Crosses in the Parish of Taughmaconnell. One is situated at ‘Shiphill’ Rockland dating back to 1623 and the other at the end of the old road in Skeyvalley near Miltown Boundary in Dysart dating back to 1734.
